Last month I bought my new computer and installed my new favorite OS on it. After playing around for a while I started to think how to extend the usage of a personal PC.

So what do I have? 4 cores, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD and … yes 100MB internet connection both ways! => Private Server! So I started to set it up:

  • Web Server (SSL only)
  • IMAP Server (SSL only)
  • SSH Server (8196 bit keys – just a bit paranoid 🙂 )

Unfortunately on SH we are not allowed to run public services. So it needs to be kept for private purposes only – meaning no domain is allowed to point to out IPs. But at least services i.e. DynDNS are allowed 🙂
